Invisible Edge Porcelain with Gold Crowns
Contact Us Today! We have all seen dark lines around crowns at the gum line. These lines are usually the root of the tooth showing below the edge of a porcelain fused to metal crown. The roots do not show when the crown is first placed, but with gum recession the root is exposed. Light does not pass through the metal part of the crown or the opaque deeper layer of porcelain that covers the metal. We no longer provide this sort of restoration. Instead we either provide all-ceramic crowns or porcelain fused to gold crowns with porcelain shoulder. A porcelain shoulder means that the porcelain closest to the gum line does not have metal underneath. This permits light transmission into the root area, eliminating or greatly reducing any dark shadows.
It is important for the patient to understand that there are a number of metals that can be used under porcelain. We don’t use non-precious metals (the basic restoration covered by some HMO plans) because the bonding of porcelain is weaker, they are less esthetic and many patients are allergic to the metals used. Semi-precious metals are an improvement and could be used to control our costs, but still do not provide the excellent fit or esthetics that we appreciate in a restoration with a high percentage of precious metal. You can rest assured that our desire is for the best value your money can buy.
It was great. Each staff member greeted me and they walked me through the whole office. I highly recommend Studio Dentistry. They are great!!
